Ironman training in Stellenbosch, South Africa

Last weekend I visited Stellenbosch and stayed over at Dan Hugo’s (dghugo.com) place. We did a brick together on Saturday during which I super dehydrated, but the next day I had an awesome 4 hour bike on the rolling roads just outside Stellenbosch.

USA NAVY has sponsored this years Ironman World Championship.

Sport is not about nations and conflicts and world championship events are not a place for military recruitment.

US Navy, or any other form of military anywhere in the world, is designed to murder people. I believe that there is always possibility of resolution without aggressive conflict or war.

US Navy also is in control of various nuclear weapons and other WMD (weapons of mass destruction) and therefore is of high risk for the safety of anyone in the world.

Also military budgets are better spent on health and wellbeing rather than expensive defence from imaginary enemies. Why not produce more triathlon races with those gazzilions of dollars instead of investing them on nuclear missiles?

US Navy needs to advertise to find more recruits. Such large budgets need more staff to justify them politically (remember the pre dot com crash hiring spree?).

Please do NOT join the Navy or any other form of military. The guys you will have to fight on the other side are also military - if everybody just quits military there will be no one to fight. It is that simple!

World does not need more soldiers. We need more bakers, doctors, artists and triathlon coaches... Bakers and coaches do not kill each other.
