Ironman 70.3 World Championship 2007

Even though Ironman 70.3 is called Ironman I will always look at it as a different sport, or even a different universe. Just as half-maraton and marathon are only similar in that they are both running and have similar names, also Ironman 70.3 and Ironman (140.6) are totally different kinds of challenges. This website is dedicated to the “real” Ironman but it is interesting to mention the Ironman 70.3 World Champs.

It is a super fast track and it seams the Ironman 70.3 is still oriented towards relaxed age groupers. It will take some time for it to become as competitive as Ironman but theoretically it has a huge potential as it requires less investment in progress than Ironman. Eventually this will become a speed race with more and more ITU kind of athletes experiment with Ironman 70.3. I am also guessing that drafting could become a big problem. Currently, just like Xterra, Ironman 70.3 is a sport which has couple of dedicated guys but still depends on occassional ventures of ITU and Ironman triathletes.
