Ironman coach Brett Sutton is a convicted paedophile
March 24th, 2008 by nikola
Chrissie Wellington is a 2007 Ironman World Champion and her success has put a big spotlight on her coach, Brett Sutton. Triathlete Magazine describes Brett Sutton as “The man that is to triathlon what Vince Lombardi was to American footballâ€. I do not know who Vince Lombardi is but I doubt he is convicted of forcing 13-year-old girls into oral sex.
Brett Sutton is a convicted sexual abuser of children. For some super crazy lucky reason he is not serving a life sentence or something like that. Frankly if I was a father of the kids he molested he would not be able to spend time between Thailand beaches and Swiss Alps advertising himself as one of the world’s best triathlon coaches.
Read the following part of The Observer interview with Brett Sutton:
The other counts included one where Sutton picked the girl up from school, took her to an underground car park and forced her to give him oral sex in the back of the van. ‘She tried to lift her head but his hand was at the back of her head,’ the court was told. ‘She recalls him saying things like ‘You’re good at this’. She states that she felt like it was something she was supposed to be doing because he made her feel like it’s the right thing to do.’
ITU has banned Bratt Sutton from their venues and advised local organizations not to collaborate with him. I am amazed that such a person is getting so much attention in Ironman circuits. I am amazed that a young woman like Chrisse Wellington is sending such a message to the world that it is OK to promote a rapist of children. I am amazed that company like Cervelo would get any close to an athlete who is openly related to a rapist of children.
I am so annoyed by the fact that this guy has infiltrated this great sport that the least I can do is ignore companies who support any athletes coached by Brett Sutton:
TYR
Cervelo
HED
Blue Seventy
Oakley
Ideal Saddle Modification
Fitness First
The Bike Boutique
TriBallistic
…
I sponsor athletes too and I would never ever ever give any money to anyone who is working with someone who abuses kids. I mean - are people at Cervelo and HED crazy? What is this? Middle-ages? The guy rapes 13-year-old girls! He should not be supported, he should be buried in the bottom of a volcano!
I am aware how silly it sounds to ignore some companies but I just feel like I have to do something as I feel frustrated that this person has done so much harm to someone yet he is free to advertise himself in such manner within this sport’s community. Why I get upset about it? I do not know, that is how I am. I can not be cool about such hypocrisy.

I made a wikipedia page about Brett Sutton at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Sutton including his criminal record. Officially he is a child molester therefore he should be classified as one in the wikipedia or any enciclopedia as well. However someone made a quick username and has vandalize the page and later on has deleted all the information about Brett Sutton crimial record. I guess someone is making very silly and transparent attempts at trying to manage his image online.
Brett Sutton has been charged guilty for paedophilia and therefore he should be classified as a peadophile - whatever he does now, be it coaching, cooking, feeding the poor, is another story. History can not be erased. Also his criminal history is public information, trying to make it unavailable is just silly. I think parents who want to hire him should be aware of his criminal history, it is only normal that such information should be disclosed.
Very annoying this little cover up attempt. So clumsy… Just makes me work extra five minutes.

Hi Nicola,
I’m a journalist gathering interviews from the triathlon world who have something to say about Brett Sutton in regards to his criminal past and opinions as to expectations about how his situation should be handled, or if he he’s at a point where enough time has passed that he should be permitted to have a second chance. Would you be willing to share your views? I can interview you by phone or email. Thank you, T.J. Murphy. You can email me at tj.triathlete@gmail.com
